Malaysian Studies
In Malaysia, if you want to graduate with a degree, you need to pass 2 compulsory tests set by LAN-jiao, Moral Studies and Malaysian Studies. I’ve finished my stint in Taylor’s early on, barely passing and getting the green light by LAN. A few of my fellow IMU mates however, did not had the luxury i had in Taylor’s, and so, instead of taking the traditional exam like everybody does, Malaysian Studies teacher gave them the choice to hold a Malaysian Studies day, to increase awareness of Malaysia amongst themselves as well as others~
The Malaysian Studies day is a food fair cum concert type of affair and was held throughout a 3 day period. There’s lots of food prepared by their very own hands, and there are martial arts performances, cultural dances, and a live concert to please all batches in IMU.
Wen Chung and Chen Yi decided they could contribute their efforts in the field of selling Lok-Lok. And even if me and doreen weren’t in the Malaysian Studies class, we decided to help them out! (So Wen Chung Chen Yi, chia me dinner yea!! bwahhahahah!). So before the carnival started, we headed to Old Petaling town to get items at a cheap price. Fate had us played with when we saw Pui San, standing beside a refrigerator in the first shop we chose to went in and apparently it was her parent’s shop and she was working there helping them! She chose all the right stuff for us and gave us a magnificent price cut on all our purchases! Honestly i don’t think our success could be called a success without the help of Pui San.
On the same day, we pierced small little tofu, fish balls, crab sotong balls and the like with long satay sticks, color coded them, and froze them. Chen Yi cooked 2 soups, a chicken herbal soup and a tom yum kung soup~ I LOOOOOOVE the tom yum concoction and i think it was much loved by the crowd later on.
On Monday, we set about selling the little piercings of food to the crowd. And by the third day, we only managed to earn about RM150++, which is quite low, but still a contribution to the Malaysian Studies fund! (you all la~ sell that time don wanna buy, when it’s given out free only u all come crowd around the booth!! Cis~)
But that’s just the finance part, which wasn’t the main part of the whole carnival. The theme of the day, was “Here in My Home”. Appropriately named i would think as all races in our batch was, for the first time i think, so merry together! All the races! We wore different races’ traditional costumes, we cam whored together, we ate and laugh together, everything as one. This kind of harmony should be shown to the world and for everyone to be set as an example as this world requires a little bit more love around.
In the end, the whole class got an A for their project and a sizable sum of funds were raised. A successful carnival all in all~
